2018 Confucius Institute Day and Chinese Singing Competition finals

To celebrate the 14th anniversary of the Confucius Institute, the Confucius Institute at Moi University, Kenya, held the 2018 Confucius Institute Day and Chinese Singing Competition finals on September 29th in Eldoret, for the students of Moi University. Teachers and students alike participated wholeheartedly, resulting in a colorful and entertaining display of Chinese and Kenyan culture.
 
Mr. Zhuo Wu Chairman of the Kenya Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Bao Ping the Chairlady of Kenyan Chinese Art Troupes, attended the meeting as distinguished guests and judges.

At the beginning of the event, the Moi University choir team performed the Kenyan folk song "JUMBO" as well as the Chinese folk song "Usuli Boat Song(乌苏里船歌)", incorporating Chinese characteristics into their performance. This was welcomed as a sure demonstration of friendliness between the two countries.

Owing to the fierce competition among the contestants, the judges had to carefully deliberate the merits of each performance. Eventually, Ruth Kipchumba won the crown with a wonderful rendition of "Moon represents my heart(月亮代表我的心)". It is not an exaggeration to say that her beautiful voice deeply touched the hearts of the audience.

Eddyglen Ligawa and Marie Sangona with their charismatic performance of "Just Meet You(刚好遇见你)" and "Exsits in my song(我的歌声里)" were the first runners up and second runers up respectively. In addition, five second prize winners and eight third prize winners were selected.
At the end of the event, the guests took to the stage to present awards and prizes to the winners. Mr. Huang Peixi, Dean of the Confucius Institute at Moi University, delivered a moving speech to celebrate the successful completion of the event.
