Professor Peter Simatei, Dean of the School of Arts and Social Sciences at Moi University and local director of the Confucius Institute at Moi University, gave a welcome speech. On the second agenda, the deans asked questions about how to set up Confucius Institute’s common courses and how can students visit China by learning Chinese. Director Huang Peixi answered the question with great enthusiasm. Next, the delegates had a heated discussion on the registration of Chinese students and the formation of classes. At first, professor Peter Simatei introduced the designing of foreign language curriculum in the School of Arts and Social Sciences, and proposed that the Chinese course can be the linguistic and kiswahili majors’ credit elective. Professor Justus Murunga Wamukoya, Dean of the School of Information at Moi University, said that the School of Information has a number of majors, including multimedia, who have the need to study abroad. He provides a suggestion of cross-college elective program for students who come from different grades of various schools to take the same Chinese course. However, because of the limited number of Confucius Institute teachers and the time management conflicts between students, this issue needs further discussion. Deans of the School of Education, of the School of Business, and of the School of Public Health all said that Chinese can be an elective.
