On May 14, 2018,the Joint Conference of the Confucius Institute in Africa opened in Maputo, the capital of Mozambique. Li Zhanshu, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China, accompanied by Mozambique’s President of Parliament, Veronica Nataniel Macamo Ndlovo, attended the opening ceremony and made an opening remark.

The two-day conference focused on " Innovation and Featured Development of Confucius Institutes", "Improving Educational Quality of Confucius Institutes," and "Strengthening Collaboration and Experience Sharing of Confucius Institutes" to share case studies and discussions.
VC Speaking in the Plenary Session
Prof. Isaac Kosgey, VC of Moi University, Prof. Huang Peixi, the Chinese Director of CIMU, and Prof. Peter Simatei, the co-director of CIMU, presented the conference. Prof. Kosgey delivered a speech, entitled "Featured Development and Innovation: The Way of Development of Confucius Institute at Moi University ". By introducing such featured programs as "China-Africa Textile and Apparel International Forum", "The Advanced Seminars on Textile and Apparel", and "The Textile Exhibition and Fashion Show" of the Confucius Institute at Moi University, as well as their improvement and innovation, the speech explained to the delegates that “The featured development of the Confucius Institute at Moi University is the characteristic development that makes full use of its own advantages.” and “The innovation and development of the Confucius Institute at Moi University is an innovative development based on its characteristics.” The speech by VC was highly praised by the delegates present.

In the panel discussion, prof. Kosgey exchanged opinions with the representatives about the issues of technical training cooperation and the development of the Institute’s faculty, work permits, and facilities.

The conference embraced more than 300 participants, including VCs , Directors from over 60 Confucius Institutes and Classrooms in 41 countries in Africa, as well as representatives from Chinese and African companies and institutions.
The conference was hosted by the Confucius Institute Headquarters/Hanban and organized by the University of Eduardo Mondlane in Mozambique
